Resources for Reviewers

Role of Reviewers

Reviewers play an important role in maintaining the academic quality of the Pakistan Journal of Nutrition (PJN). They are expected to provide an objective and constructive evaluation of manuscripts, helping authors improve their work and assisting editors in making fair decisions. Their feedback should focus on the originality, clarity, validity, and overall contribution of the research.

Confidentiality

All manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents. Reviewers must not share, discuss, or use the information from a manuscript for personal advantage. The content should only be evaluated for the purpose of providing feedback to the journal and the authors.

Timeliness and Commitment

Reviewers are expected to respond to invitations promptly and to submit their reports within the agreed timeline. If a reviewer feels unqualified to evaluate a manuscript or cannot complete the review on time, they should notify the editor immediately so that an alternative reviewer can be arranged.

Constructive Feedback

Review reports should be clear, respectful, and evidence-based. Reviewers are encouraged to highlight strengths as well as areas for improvement. Criticism should be directed at the content of the manuscript, not at the authors personally. The purpose of the review is to support academic development and ensure high standards of publication.

Ethical Considerations

Reviewers must declare any potential conflicts of interest that may influence their evaluation, such as personal, financial, or professional relationships with the authors. They should also be alert to possible research misconduct, such as plagiarism, duplicate publication, or ethical issues in study design, and bring such concerns to the attention of the editor.

Contribution to the Scholarly Community

By participating in peer review, reviewers contribute to the advancement of knowledge and uphold the trustworthiness of academic publishing. Their commitment ensures that the journal maintains integrity, transparency, and academic excellence in its publications.
